Santa Fe County Flooding Assistance and Information

Last night (8/2)

Last night the Emergency Management Office, Santa Fe County Volunteers and Career Firefighters and members of our Technical Rescue Team responded to severe thunderstorms and one family in a vehicle swept into the Santa Cruz River. All are safe and doing well. Our crews are reporting that more than one home was significantly impacted last night in the La Puebla area due to flash flooding. Chief Vigil and crew are assessing the situation.

Please continue to monitor the National Weather Service for current and upcoming weather conditions.  Santa Fe County crews are positioned to immediately respond to future storm emergencies.

Disaster Declaration / Assistance

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the Disaster Declaration on July 31, 2018 giving the Santa Fe County Manager authority to gather County Resources to assist impacted residents with basic needs and debris removal (Normally the County is restricted from providing any services on private property). 

Santa Fe County Public Works crews and Santa Fe County Emergency Management Division are out assisting residents with flood related issues and will continue throughout the weekend in the La Cienega area.   The County will continue with assistance as long as needed.  Santa Fe County is waiving the bulk water fee for residents, if their well was damaged by the floods.  County staff is available to evaluate your private well. 

What you need to know:

·         If you need debris picked up from your property or have debris related questions you can contact Les Francisco/992-3068

*please note Santa Fe County is working to clear debris from properties.  We also have roll off waste containers in La Cienega, residents can toss their debris in the containers. Santa Fe County will be picking up the roll off containers and dumping them throughout the day.  All bins will be picked up at the end of the day and taken back out in the mornings. You can also dispose of flood related waste at the landfill free of charge.

GM Emulsion has also volunteered to assist residents and will be in the La Cienega area this Saturday. 

Santa Fe County Office of Emergency Management is transitioning from Emergency Operations to focus on Disaster Recovery Coordination. County Emergency Management staff escorted the FEMA Damage Assessment Team to various homes which had significant damage, in already identified target areas.

Basic Necessities

If you need to request basic necessities, residents can continue to call the Fire Line (M-F from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at 505-992-3070 or Regional Emergency Dispatch non- emergency at 505-428-3700 (after hours/ weekends) and they will take your information and coordinate the appropriate Relief.    

Insurance Company Issues

If any residents are having issues with their insurance company, you can report the issue to the New Mexico Office of the Superintendent of Insurance 855-427-5674.

Sand Bags

Empty sand bags are still available at any of the Regional Fire Stations.  Sand is available at the La Cienega Fire Station #2.
