Santa Fe County Funds La Familia for Drug Treatment Services

Santa Fe, NM- September 5, 2013— The Santa Fe County Community Services Department is pleased to announce the La Familia Medical Center has been awarded $95,000 to develop comprehensive behavioral health treatment services for individuals who are addicted to opiates. The selected contractor will serve up to 70 Santa Fe County residents, 30 of whom are pregnant. Services will include Medication Assisted Treatment provided in conjunction with case management, counseling, education and other psychosocial services as needed. The contract also provides funds for the training of community based providers, the development of a public awareness campaign, and the distribution of Naloxone (Narcan).

Awarded funds were based on a Request for Funding (RFP) released by Santa Fe County Community Services to provide comprehensive behavioral health programming to patients who are addicted to opiates in Santa Fe County. An independent panel reviewed the proposals and recommended funding of $95,000 to La Familia. Earlier this year the Community Services Department provided $25,000 to La Familia for startup funds to serve pregnant women who are opiate addicted.

“We are very proud to be partnering with La Familia in providing needed behavioral health services for our citizens,” said Kathy Holian, Santa Fe County Commission Chair.

In 2011, New Mexico’s age adjusted drug overdose death rate was 25.9 per 100,000 persons; nearly twice the national rate.
