Santa Fe County Funds Youth Programs
County Provides Funds to Agencies Dedicated to Increasing the Health of Our Youth
The Santa Fe County Community Services Department, Teen Court Program announces the release of $234,000 to community based organizations to be used to develop and administer age appropriate educational and recreational program for youth in Santa Fe between kindergarten and 12th grade. Funds support both community based organizations and public entities that provide learning and educational opportunities for youth.
Funds represent an ever increasing commitment of the Board of County Commissioners to provide appropriate learning activities for the youth of Santa Fe County.
“The Board is committed to supporting those community based programs that promote health and learning amongst our youth,” stated Santa Fe County Manager Katherine Miller. Miller expects program funds to increase again in 2018.
A total of 24 youth programs received funding for youth education and recreation programs. Priority was given to those agencies whose program plans addressed indicators in the Santa Fe County Health Action Plan including, but not limited to: reducing alcohol and drug abuse, reducing low birth weight babies, reducing suicide, and increasing the consumption of healthy food. The programs range from tutoring and reading camps, to cooking, dance and leadership training.
