Santa Fe County Growth Management to Host Community Meeting on the Conditional Use Permitting (CUP) Process for Commercial Renewable Energy Projects

Santa Fe, NM- Santa Fe County’s Growth Management Department will host a series of community meetings on the conditional use permitting (CUP) process for commercial renewable energy projects and hazard mitigation. These meetings are in response to concerns from residents regarding the AES (Applied Energy Services) Clean Energy Solar project application. The County’s goal is to provide information and education to the public ahead of the formal quasi-judicial hearings normally required by the Sustainable Land Development Code.

The Growth Management Department staff will lead the first meeting on October 22, 2024, focusing on the development review process and the criteria used to determine whether proposed uses are permissible. At this meeting, staff will provide an overview of the Conditional Use Permitting (CUP) process and the criteria used during the quasi-judicial public hearing process. As outlined in Chapter 4 of the Sustainable Land Development Code, the public can comment on proposed projects in front of a hearing officer and the County of Santa Fe Planning Commission.

To ensure that topics of concern are adequately addressed, residents are encouraged to submit their questions by October 16, 2024, at 5:00pm using this link: Pre-Meeting Questions.

The community meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. via Webex. To join the meeting, click here: https://sfco.webex.com/sfco/j.php?MTID=m1daf3c8c4005dace96eebe4081e0dbca

All interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend this meeting. It is an opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the permitting process, learn about your role in public participation, and become informed about the specific AES project under review. Fire staff and third-party hazard mitigation experts will lead a second meeting, planned for November 6, 2024. Both meetings are virtual.
