Santa Fe County Hires Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Director

Santa Fe, NM- Santa Fe County today announced the hiring of Don “Brad” Call as the new civilian Director of the Office of Emergency Management. Mr. Call brings a wealth of progressively responsible emergency management experience to Santa Fe County, including four years as the Director of Emergency Management for Cascade County, Montana.

Mr. Call’s emergency management experience includes: (1) being a longstanding Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member and serving as the lead Public Information Officer (PIO) for his CERT team in Arizona; (2) serving as the Regional Emergency Preparedness Planner with Jackson County, Missouri; (3) serving as a team lead contractor providing support for Hurricane Harvey; and (4) service as Director of Emergency Management for Cascade County, Montana.

Mr. Call earned his Bachelor's in Business and Human Resource Management from Northern Arizona University, a Master's in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, and a Master's in Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security from Arizona State University.

“Creating a standalone OEM focused exclusively on emergency management was a foundational recommendation in the Santa Fe County OEM Task Force report adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in late 2023,” County Manager Gregory S. Shaffer said.  “I look forward to working with Brad and the rest of the OEM team to expeditiously implement the remainder of the recommendations.”

“As your new OEM Director, I stand ready to serve this community and its citizens, working with them to be better prepared and, ultimately, resilient in the face of both natural and man-made disasters,” Mr. Call said.  “I appreciate the road map created by the SFC OEM Task Force and look forward to working with all stakeholders to make the vision of the Task Force report a reality.”

An immediate focus of the new OEM will be to create a CERT team and a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).
