Santa Fe County is Offering a Grazing Lease for 11.6 Acres of Irrigated Pasture in Chimayo

Santa Fe County is offering a grazing lease for 11.6 acres of irrigated pasture in Chimayo. The property for lease is located at 280 Juan Medina Road in Chimayo, New Mexico. The property is located behind the Santuario de Chimayo in an area referred to as Los Potreros.

The term of the lease is for 1 year, with the option for renewing the lease for an additional 2 years. The carrying capacity of the pasture has been set at 5 Animal Units (5 cow/calf pairs). Other livestock stocking numbers will be considered by the County if the lessee submits a legitimate grazing management plan.

The lessee will be responsible for putting the water rights associated with the property to beneficial use, paying annual dues to the acequia association, providing labor or paying for labor to clean the ditch, maintaining fences, keeping the property free of debris and trash.

The rent for the property will be in accordance with standard rates established by the Farm Service.

The lessee will be chosen by a lottery to be conducted at the Open Space and Trails Program offices of Santa Fe County on Thursday, March 28, 2013. You must be a Santa Fe County Resident to be eligible for the lottery. To enter the lottery fill out the application form below and return it via U.S. Mail to:

Application forms may also be dropped off in person at the Open Space Program Offices, 901 West Alameda Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501. All lottery applications must be received by Noon, Thursday, March 28, 2013.
