Santa Fe County Issues Statement Regarding Death of Jail Inmate

Santa Fe – December 9, 2010 – Santa Fe County has received inquires regarding an unfortunate event in which Robert Montoya, an inmate at the Santa Fe County Jail, attempted suicide on Tuesday, December 7, 2010. He later died from injuries sustained during the attempt. Santa Fe County would like to notify all media and residents that, at this time and out of respect to Robert Montoya and his family and friends, Santa Fe County will not be responding to questions that would result in a loss of privacy or dignity. Our thoughts are with the inmate’s family and friends, and our heart goes out to those he left behind during this time of tragedy. Following standard procedure, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation and will make the results of that investigation public in the future.
