Santa Fe- February 3, 2011-Santa Fe County non essential offices closed today, Thursday, February 3 at 3:30 p.m. in response to the State of Emergency declared by Governor Martinez. The State of Emergency comes in light of the natural gas outages across the state.
We are asking all residents to please join conservation efforts and help preserve gas and electricity. Please lower your thermostat (a recommended temperature for a thermostat is 64 degrees) and use alternative heat sources. If you have wood or pellet stoves, please utilize these heat sources, use electric heaters only if necessary, wear extra layers and use blankets to help stay warm. At this time, residents are encouraged to remain in their homes if they can and if they have safe alternative sources of heat to keep warm.
Do NOT use unvented heaters, grills, propane or kerosene heaters or camp stoves inside homes or enclosed spaces as these can result in carbon monoxide poisoning.
Please check on your neighbors and friends, especially the elderly, sick or homebound.
The Santa Fe Board of County Commissioners take the cold and energy crisis very seriously and are foremost concerned about the frail elderly and disabled that might need some extra assistance.
If you or someone you know is without food, heat or need assistance please call the non-emergency number at 505-428-3710.
