Santa Fe County Offers Diabetes Prevention Workshop and Information

Santa Fe, NM – December 18, 2012 – Santa Fe County is hosting a free Diabetes Prevention workshop and information on free weekly classes about Type 2 Diabetes prevention to help raise awareness and provide information to residents.

The Diabetes Prevention workshop is on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 10 a.m. – noon at the Nambe Community/ Senior Center. It is free to anyone interested in attending.

In addition to the workshop, residents can sign up for free weekly classes that will start on January 15, 2013 to help residents learn more about preventing Type 2 Diabetes and what they can do to reduce their risk of Type 2 Diabetes by making lifestyle changes.

The free weekly classes will be held in Espanola with transportation from the Santa Fe County Senior Program. Diabetes prevention programming is based on the National Diabetes Prevention Program model.

Anna Hargreaves, MA, MPH, New Mexico Department of Health and Melanie Chapman, Wellness Director, Family YMCA, Los Alamos are speaking at both the prevention workshop and the free classes.
