Santa Fe County Receives Highest Recognition for Government Accounting and Financial Reporting
Santa Fe, NM – July 31, 2012 – Santa Fe County received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The award was given for Santa Fe County’s June 30, 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
The Board of County Commissioners recognized staff on July 31, 2012 at their regular meeting for preparing the winning CAFR and a plaque was awarded to the Santa Fe County Finance Department from the GFOA.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
“This was Santa Fe County’s first year at preparing the CAFR and our primary goal was to receive suggestions and recommendations upon which to improve for our next CAFR, we were absolutely ecstatic to achieve an award on our first attempt. I would like to thank all our staff and auditors, Heinfeld , Meech and Co., P.C. for all their hard work and assistance,” said Teresa Martinez, Santa Fe County Finance Director.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.
