Santa Fe County Releases County Health Action Plan
Santa Fe, NM – May 12, 2014- Santa Fe County has released the Santa Fe County Health Action Plan. The Santa Fe County Health Action Plan: FY 2015-2017, was produced by the Santa Fe County Health Policy and Planning Commission (HPPC) and the Santa Fe County Community Services Department. The action plan is based on “Santa Fe County in 2013: A Community Health Profile”.
Utilizing the findings of the Community Health Profile, and incorporating community involvement, the County Health Action Plan highlights six health goals for the County and the community as a whole to pursue.
- Increase enrollment of residents in health insurance
- Reduce alcohol abuse
- Reduce drug abuse
- Reduce low birth weight
- Improve mental health/Reduce suicides
- Increase consumption of healthy food
The Health Action Plan proposes communitywide actions and sets forth specific actions for County government for each of these high-priority goals.
“I support the release of the document and the document itself, it is a great work product that helped clearly define the goals and direction of our community,” said Commission Chair, Daniel Mayfield.
“The Santa Fe County Health Action Plan is an impressive document of information. It focuses on the greatest needs in our community, such as dealing more effectively with drug and alcohol addiction and low birth-weight babies, while recognizing that we shouldn't just work to reduce illness, but also promote good health by making healthy food available to everybody,” said Commissioner Kathy Holian.
