Santa Fe County Seeks Ethics Board Members

Santa Fe – October 28, 2010 - Santa Fe County is seeking individuals to serve as volunteer members on its new Ethics Board. The Ethics Board is being created as a result of the County Board of Commissioners’ passage of a comprehensive Ethics Ordinance enacting a Santa Fe County Code of Conduct Ordinance 2010-12 at its September 28, 2010 commission meeting.

The Ethics Board will consist of three members appointed by the Board of Commissioners, including at least one citizen member. Each member will serve a two-year term, and be subject to reappointment after the completion of that term.

The Ethics Board will have the power to issue administrative subpoenas compelling the attendance of witnesses at hearings and production of documents, as well as the authority to seek enforcement of those subpoenas by the First Judicial District Court.

If the Board finds an elected or appointed official or County volunteer violated any provision of the Ordinance, it can impose penalties including a civil fine of as much as $300, a written censure, or refer its findings to the County Manager or District Attorney for further action.

Anyone interested in serving on the Santa Fe County Ethics Board should submit a resume, a letter of interest and a statement of any affiliation with Santa Fe County by Friday, November 5, 2010 to:
