The Santa Fe Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement that allowed Santa Fe County to help expand the availability of broadband service through the use of the Regional Economic Development Initiative Network (REDI Net) of fiber optic lines to Pojoaque Valley broadband users. This allowed Black Mesa Wireless, a third party internet service provider to provide access to high speed broadband for the residents of the Pojoaque Valley.

“It is very exciting to know that the residents of the Pojoaque Valley will now have access to high speed wireless broadband service. With the coordinated efforts between Santa Fe County and REDI Net, the intended purpose of REDI Net is coming to fruition. Santa Fe County will work to continue to expand the availability of broadband service throughout the Pojoaque Valley, utilizing the REDI Net network of fiber optic lines,” said Commission Chair Henry P. Roybal.

The Pojoaque Fire Station has lines from the REDI Net fiber optic network running to it and Black Mesa Wireless connected into the REDI Net lines. This sub-lease allows Black Mesa to mount its equipment at the fire station.

Santa Fe County is a signature to the Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) that created the quasi-government entity REDI Net. REDI Net was created as a rural broadband middle-mile network providing service to Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos Counties, the City of Espanola, the Pueblo of Pojoaque, the Pueblo of Tesuque, the Pueblo Ohkay Owingeh and Santa Clara Pueblo. The North Central New Mexico Economic Development District is also a signature to the JPA.
