Santa Fe County to Host Public Hearings Focusing on Older Americans Act

Santa Fe, NM – May 9, 2013 - Santa Fe County Senior Services will host three public hearings on the Older Americans Act (OAA) and related services. As an OAA provider, Santa Fe County Senior Services administers programs countywide and receives funding to provide congregate meals at senior centers in the communities of Edgewood, Eldorado, El Rancho, Chimayo, Rio en Medio and Santa Cruz as well as home delivered meals to qualified individuals countywide and transportation services.

In addition to the services we currently contract to provide, the OAA funds programs providing Case Management, Assisted Transportation, Health Promotion Activities, Home Safety Services, Respite (Alzheimer’s) Care, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, and Volunteer Programs.

Santa Fe County would like to invite residents to attend any of our public hearings to learn about these services and provide valuable input on the need for services of a growing population of seniors. The OAA was passed in 1965 in response to concerns about a lack of services for older persons. Today the OAA is considered to be the major vehicle for the organization and delivery of social and nutrition services to older adults and their caregivers.
