Santa Fe Honored for Financial Operations; Staff Recognized

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded Santa Fe County the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.  In order to receive the budget award, the County met nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation and demonstrated, in a measurable way, a commitment to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting.

“This award is a confirmation on a national level of what I already know” said Roman Abeyta, Santa Fe County Manager, “Our financial staff are among the best anywhere in the country.  They work every day to manage the public funds entrusted to them in a manner worthy of the respect and trust of the County residents they serve.”  The award recognizes how well Santa Fe County’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

The GFOA also recognized the following County Finance Department staff for their role in being responsible for the County achieving this award: Teresa Martinez, Finance Department Director; Paul Griffin, Budget Administrator; and Sharon Vigil-Ramirez, Budget Analyst.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America.  Award recipients pioneer efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and serve as examples for other governments.  The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
