Santa Fe River Restoration at San Isidro Crossing Groundbreaking Ceremony
Santa Fe, NM – November 2, 2012 – Santa Fe County Open Space and Trails would like to invite all Santa Fe County residents to the groundbreaking for the Santa Fe River restoration at San Isidro Park on the Santa Fe River Greenway. The groundbreaking ceremony will be on Wednesday, November 7 at 2 p.m. at the San Isidro Park trailhead. This will kick off Phase Two of the river restoration project from County Road 62 (Lopez Lane) to San Ysidro Crossing, approximately 0.7 miles. Work is expected to commence on November 13 and the current project completion date is June 2013.
The river restoration on the Santa Fe River will stabilize the river channel below San Ysidro Crossing and address off-site drainage issues. Work will include earthwork, removal of some existing structures, construction of rock walls, grade control structures, rock riffle rundowns, rock deflectors, rock vanes, catchment ponds and drainage, recreational trail, landscaping and re-vegetation.
The trail at San Isidro Park will eventually connect to the entire Santa Fe River Greenway, including the segments within the City limits. The completed Greenway will extend approximately 15 miles from downtown Santa Fe to the Wastewater Treatment Plant west of NM 599. In addition to the restoration work, a community sculpture designed by Michael Bergt will be constructed at the trailhead at San Ysidro Crossing.
This project is funded by Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) and has a total project cost of $1,185,578, the design engineer for the project is Wilson and Company and the contractor is Meridian Contracting, Inc.
Directions to the event: The ground breaking will be held at the San Isidro Park trailhead. From Agua Fria Street, turn north on San Ysidro Crossing and cross the Santa Fe River. Take the first left into the parking lot for the trailhead.
