TwoTooMany Lose Your Car

TwoTooMany Lose Your Car

The Santa Fe County DWI program unveiled a new public awareness campaign to remind everyone to Think SaFe and do not drink and drive because there is too much to lose with TwoTooMany. Drunk drivers arrested for DWI after one previous drunk driving conviction will have their vehicle seized, face forfeiture of that car which is then sold at auction.

“Don’t let TwoTooMany ruin your holidays, don’t drive buzzed, drunk or under the influence. Forfeiture of your vehicle is a very real consequence of driving drunk. Don’t take the chance of losing your car, Think SaFe, call a Cab Ride Home,” said Lupe Sanchez, Santa Fe County DWI Program Coordinator.

Santa Fe County Sheriff has seized 105 vehicles so far this year and the Santa Fe Police Department has taken 333 from violators.

A safe alternative to driving buzzed or drunk is to take advantage of the Cab Ride Home. The Santa Fe County DWI Program subsidizes a ride home for $5 per cab for 1-2 riders and $10 per cab for 3 or more and will offer the program on Wednesday, December 24, Christmas Eve. The Cab Ride Home program will also be available on Wednesday, December 31, New Year’s Eve for $1. Think SaFe, take a Cab Ride Home.

In Santa Fe County there have been six tragic deaths because of alcohol involved crashes, which is the same as last year a number that hasn’t been matched since 2008. More people have died in drunk driving crashes every other year since 2003. The goal of the Santa Fe County DWI Program is to have zero deaths at the hands of drunk drivers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is also announcing a new mobile app, SaferRide, to make it very easy to call for a cab or a friend to drive you home. The free app is available for Android and IPhone (see links below). When opened the app has three buttons, one to call a cab, one to call a friend and one to find where you are on a map.
