Walk to Stop Driving Under the Influence

Santa Fe, NM – March 19, 2013 - Santa Fe County residents and everybody interested in working to stop, Driving Under the Influence of intoxicating alcohol or drugs (DUI), is invited to Walk to Stop DUI. The walk is a non-competitive 5K event to raise awareness and money to host a drug and alcohol free Post Prom Party for the Pojoaque High School 2013 Senior Prom. The 5K event is on April 6, 2013 at 10 a.m., the course will start and end at the Buffalo Thunder Resort.

Walkers collect pledges of any amount from family, friends, and coworkers. Pre-registration forms can be found and downloaded at: www.santafecountynm.gov/sfcwalk2013or walkers can pick up a form from the Santa Fe County DWI Office, located at 2052 Galisteo Street from Diolinda Roybal (505-992-9856) or the Santa Fe County Fire Prevention Division located at 4001 Office Court, Bldg. 900, Suite 906 from Victoria DeVargas (505-995-6529).

Pre-registration forms are due back to the above listed County Offices by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Late registration will held at from 8 a.m. – 9: 30 a.m. on the day of the walk at Buffalo Thunder Resort.

“This is a great opportunity for everyone to do something, to make a small positive gesture with a huge benefit. The money raised will help keep kids safe, off the streets and highways and show them a very positive way to celebrate after prom,” said Lupe Sanchez, DWI Program Coordinator. He continued, “Our community can work together to make our roadways safer for everyone, especially our families and friends.”

The event is hosted and sponsored by the Santa Fe County DWI Program, Santa Fe County Fire Prevention Division and many community partners.
