Water Service Interrupted Due to Pressure Spike

Santa Fe, NM – September 4, 2013 – Santa Fe County Utilities Division is working with the City of Santa Fe to restore water service in the Las Campanas, Aldea and Salva Tierra subdivisions. Santa Fe County water system operators began responding to reports of waterline leakages yesterday evening.

According to staff, a pressure reducing valve failure caused a 4 inch and 12 inch water line break along with various other minor leaks. County and city staff and an emergency contractor worked through the night to restore service. Once the water pressure testing is complete, service will be restored.

Homeowners should check their water heaters in case the pressure relief valve on their water heater operated to prevent damage to the pipes within the home.

Residents in the Las Campanas, Aldea, Salva Tierra and nearby subdivisions should expect low water pressure until at least Thursday evening. Santa Fe County would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Residents of the Aldea and Salva Tierra subdivisions, where the line breaks occurred, are advised to boil water for drinking from their taps until further notice.
