On September 28th, 2021 Commissioner Hansen and I will be presenting a resolution directing the county manager to establish a working group to analyze and make recommendations concerning an potential ordinance banning various single-use plastic and polystyrene products in Santa Fe County (Ex: single-use plastic bags, expanded polystyrene containers, straws, plastic stirrers, plastic splash sticks, and other single-use plastic and polystyrene products). If passed, a working group will be developed to provide a report and analysis on the impacts of plastic and polystyrene waste in Santa Fe County landfills, recycling centers, and communities, while also clearly laying out the potential impacts of the ban and pathways toward adopting an ordinance.
Before that, I am interested in getting your feedback as a constituent, resident, and business owner on a possible plastic and polystyrene ban and the pollution problem in our community.
