On Thursday, March 7, 2024, Deputies arrested Emilio Benitez on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  Deputies found narcotic on hsi person along with a firearm.  Emilio was charged with possession of the controlled substance X 2 and possession of a firearm by a felon.  Emilio was booked without incident.  


2024001235 / Larceny, Criminal damage to property / 03-07-2024

Location: Rancho Viejo Community, Santa Fe, NM

Victim: Rancho Viejo Homeowners association

Suspect: Mario Castaneda, 52 YOM

Deputy responded to location after receiving a report of suspect dismantling the wooden fence in the area. Once on scene and through investigation it was confirmed suspect removed the wooden fencing for person projects. Evidence and witness statements confirmed suspect is responsible. Mario would not answer the door. A criminal summons was issued. 


2024001230 / Unattended death / 03-07-2024

Location: Los Tapias Ln Santa Fe, NM

Decedent: 84 YOM

Deputy responded to location after receiving information that an elderly male passed away. Once on scene and through investigation it was learned the male had health issues. Death appears to be from natural causes. No signs of foul play observed or suspected.


2024001221 / Order of remand / 03-06-2024

Location: 225 Montezuma Ave Santa Fe, NM (First Judicial District Court)

Arrested: Hannah M. Gutierrez, 26 YOF

At the conclusion of her trial, the jury returned a verdict of guilty. Honorable M. Marlowe-Sommer remanded Ms. Gutierrez into custody. Ms. Gutierrez was placed under arrest, transported and booked into Santa Fe County Jail without incident.


Case #2024001206 Auto Burglary

Location: 60 Blk Camino La Tierra, Santa Fe

Deputies were Dispatched to the La Curchura Trailhead in reference to an auto burglary. Deputies were advised the victim had gone for a hike on the trail. Upon returning to his vehicle, the victim observed that unknown suspect(s) had broken a window to his vehicle and stolen several items.


Case #2024001213 Fraud

Location: 3400 Blk Agua Fria, Santa Fe

Deputies were advised unknown suspect(s) called the victim pretending to be Deputies from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect(s) claimed the victim had warrants for his arrest. The suspect(s) demanded money to take care of the warrants. The victim payed the suspect(s), then realized it was a scam.

Arrested Daniel Velasquez 28YOM (Espanola, NM)

Traffic stop was conducted on ehicle for not stopping at red light. Driver agreed to SFST's and showed signs of impairmet. Driver was also driving on an invalid-revoked license due to a prior DWI. Driver agreed to chemical testing and results were 0.41g/210L- 0.41g/210L. Drive was booked into SF ADC with out incident.

Contact was made with individual who had an active warrant for his arrest. Male was placed under arrest and booked into SF ADC with out incident. 


Case#2024001207/Burglary, Larceny, and Criminal Damage to Property/03-6-24

Location: 1700 Block of US 84/285, Santa Fe, NM

Damaged/Stolen:Vehicle lock. Front Loader Lights (Value $1,000)

Deputies were dispatched to the above location in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, it was learned the suspect(s) unlawfully entered the property and forced entry into a vehicle by damaging the driver's side lock. The suspect (s) then took two lights from an adjacent vehicle. 


Case#2024001201 Unattended Death 03-05-24

Assigned: R. Blea 

Entering: Sgt. E. Webb Jr. 

Deceased; 72 yoa male (Santa Fe)

Location: Shasta Lane (Santa Fe)

Deputies responded to an unresponsive person. Upon arrival medics advised, they had located a male and attempted life saving measures which were unsuccessful. Investigation revealed the male suffered from medical issues and had left the hospital earlier in the day against medical advice. No signs of foul play were located. OMI came to the scene and took custody of the individual who had passed away.
