Arrested: Shayne Swann - age 28, Santa Fe, NM

Suspect was involved in a single motor vehicle crash. Driver showed signs of impairment and upon arrest, refused to submit to a breath test. Driver was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital for his injuries and he battered two nurses. Suspect was also charged for possession of marijuana which was located in his vehicle at the time of crash.

On 7/28/2008 victim reported that sometime between 7/27/2008 1:30pm and 7/28/2008 some unknown person(s) burglarized his smoke shop and stole money and assorted smoking products. Unlawful entry was gained through the north side locked window. This incident is currently under investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.


0208006473 UNATTENDED DEATH

On 7/28/08 Deputies responded to Pinion Drive Edgewood NM, In reference to an unattended death. Santa Fe County Medics were on scene and were unable to resuscitate the 63 year of age female. It was reported that the deceased had prior medical issues and there were no signs of foul play. OMI pronounced the time of death at 11:08am.

Suspect:  Francisco Jasso, age 23, Santa Fe, NM

Charged:  Driving on suspended/revoked driver's license, Reckless Driving, Driver must be licensed

On 7/28/08, driver was observed popping wheelies southbound on SR 599 and driving in a reckless manner.  A traffic stop was initiated, and it was learned that the driver had a revoked license with the arrest clause.  Driver did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license.  He was arrested, transported, and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.

Suspect:  Alex D. Gallegos, age 24, Santa Fe, NM

Charged:  DWI, Driving on a suspended license, Negligent Use of a weapon (2 counts)

On 7/29/08, RECC received a call of shots fired in the above area and that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene.  A bolo was given out on the above vehicle in which it was located heading east on Airport Road near Paseo del Sol.  Deputies located the vehicle and made a stop on Airport Road & South Meadows.  Deputies identified the driver who admitted to drinking and was placed under arrest.  A loaded .45 caliber handgun was located under the driver seat.  Suspect was found to be intoxicated and had a suspended driver's license.  A spent casing was located at the scene.  Suspect submitted to a breath test in which his results were .09, .08.  Suspect was transported and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.

Location: 100 Block of Nancy's Trail / Los Pinos Area

On this date an unidentified person tryed to enter the victim's house by prying at a dead bolt door then cutting open a screen on a window.  Suspect ran when he found out someone was in the house.  Unable to locate suspect at this time and case is still under investigation.

On this date Security Officers reporty that an unknown person entered a room and removed several parts from equipment between June 20th and this date.  Case is under investigation at this time

Location: 100 Block of Los Pinos Road / West Frontage Road Area.

On this date suspect arrived at the residence to pickup grandaughter.  Victim did not allow suspect to take the child.  Suspect was reported to have stuck victim's arm with the vehicle as she drove off.  Victim refused medical treatment.  Suspect was not located and case is still under investigation. 


Case # 0208006487 / Assistance with Mentally Ill Person / 07-28-2008

Location: 100 Block of Senda Del Fuego, State Road #76 Area

Officer Assigned:  Deputy Mark Martinez

Suspect: Karry Freeman, 47 yoa male

Charges: none

Deputy was sent to residence to assist with a civil matter.  After talking with reporting party, Deputy made contact with suspect at his house.  While talking with suspect, Deputy noticed that the individual was incoherant and not well. At this point, the suspect grabbed a meat skewer and stabbed himself in both eyes.  Deputy tryed to get the suspect to comply, but the suspect ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife.  Deputy deployed his Taser at suspect and gained compliance and control for the suspect's safety.  Suspect was taken into protective custody and transported to St. Vincents for evalution and treatment.


Case #0208006452 / Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision / Date:07/27/2008

Location: State Road 599, Mile Marker 8 / West Alameda area

Vehicle: 2003 Honda Element

Victim: Donn Carpenter, 59 yoa male, Santa Fe,NM

Vehicle #1 was traveling southbound on NM State Road 599 at mile marker 8 in theleft hand lane. Witnesses stated that Vehicle #1 completed a passing maneuver of a second vehicle traveling at the same location in the right hand lane. According to witnesses and physical evidence on-scene, the vehicle drifted to the right across the right hand lane and left the roadway onto the right shoulder. The vehicle then continued traveling onto the dirt shoulder and through a metal fence separating the highway from the Frontage Road. Driver #1 then countersteered to the left but overcorrected. Vehicle #1 rotated in a counter-clock-wise direction up a dirt embankment and tripped. The vehicle then rolled over 1 and 1/4 times, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
