Important Dates and Information for the Santa Fe Public School Election and the Pojoaque Valley Public School Election on February 5, 2013

The Santa Fe Public School Administration (SFPS) will hold an election on February 5, 2013 to elect two new members to the Board of Education (one for District 3 and one for District 5) and to decide on a general obligation bond. If you are registered to vote in Santa Fe County and live within the Santa Fe Public School District, you can vote in this election.

The Pojoaque Valley Public School District (PVPS) will also hold an election on February 5, 2013 to elect two members to its Board of Education and to decide on Public School Capital Improvement Tax. If you are registered to vote in Santa Fe County and live within the Pojoaque Valley Public School District, you can vote in this election.

Close of Registration: If you would like to register to vote in the SFPS or PVPS election or update your registration (perhaps you have moved or changed your name), you must do so by Tuesday, January 8, 2013, when the books close. You can call the Bureau of Elections (986-6280) and ask that a Voter Registration Form be sent to you, or you can register in person at the County Clerk’s Office.

You have several options for voting.

Absentee Voting: To apply for an Absentee Ballot, you can go online (http://www.santafecounty.org/userfiles/av_app.pdf) to print an application, or call the County Clerk’s Office (505-986-6280) to request an application. Absentee Ballots will be mailed beginning Tuesday, January 8 and ending Friday, February 1. They must be returned by 7:00 PM on Election Day, February 5. If you do not have time to mail your Absentee Ballot, you can bring it to the County Clerk’s Office or to any of the polling places in Santa Fe for the Santa Fe Public School listed at the end of this article by 7:00 PM on Election Day. If you live and vote in the Pojoaque Valley Public School District, you may bring your ballot to polling place at the Frank B. Lopez Gym Multipurpose Room at the Pojoaque Valley School.

Voting in Person Early: If you wish to vote in person before the SFPS or PVPS election, you may do so at the County Clerk’s Office from Friday, January 11 through Friday, February 1, during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). The County Clerk’s Office will be closed on Monday, January 21, in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The County Clerk’s Office is located in the old County Courthouse at 102 Grant Ave., Santa Fe. There are no other early voting sites.

Voting on Election Day: You can also vote at your local polling place on Election Day. As is true of all Santa Fe Public School Elections, precincts will be consolidated. Each polling place will be open from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. For polling places, precincts, school districts and addresses visit http://www.santafecountynm.gov/clerk.
