The primary duties of the Planning Division include the following transportation planning activities and coordination efforts:
- Review development applications for compliance with County transportation design standards and overlay zoning
- Facilitate the meetings of the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and its subcommittees
- Coordinate with municipalities, tribal governments, NMDOT, and other agencies on transportation matters
- Coordinate with the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) on bus routing and services
- Represent the County at the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC)
- Represent the County at the Mid-Region Regional Transportation Planning Organization RTPO Committee
- Represent the County at the Northern Pueblos Regional Transportation Planning Organization RTPO Meetings
- Respond to transportation inquiries from constituents, consultants, developers, and the media
- Monitor and pursue federal and state grant opportunities
- Coordinate with other County departments on Title VI and ADA Compliance
The Planning Division and the Public Works Department work on transportation safety projects throughout the County. Projects include road safety studies, maintenance projects, and capital improvement projects to improve safety. Santa Fe County has recently completed the Madrid Regional Transportation Safety Plan (September 2021) and the Tesuque Roads Safety Study (January 2023) to address safety issues in these unincorporated communities. A TAC Transportation Safety Subcommittee has been formed to provide a planning framework to address existing and proposed safety studies and oversight.
